Livingston Release Geography Changed
Livingston County’s local jail closed on December 31, 2012. The old facility had 48 beds and had operated since 1978. That closure is why a Chillicothe city arrest can lead to detention and release in another county. The sheriff says Caldwell is the main contract site and DDRJ is used on a smaller basis.
A 2025 sheriff statement reported a 2024 Livingston average daily detainee population above 50 and contract detention expense above $1 million. These figures explain the cross-county arrangement.
